The Children's Literacy Success Strategy (CLaSS) is the literacy program followed in the junior classes at Galilee. CLaSS uses a systematic approach to maximise the literacy achievements of all children in the first three years of primary schooling. This is achieved through a two hour per day literacy block.
Literacy in 3-6 is guided by the key indicators of the W.A. First Steps 2nd Edition initiative and is taught through a literacy block using a combination of whole class teaching and small focus groups.
Reading Recovery is a very important part of our Literacy program at Galilee. It has been developed for Grade 1 children who are having difficulty getting started in learning how to read. The aim of Reading Recovery is to help these children to develop the necessary skills to participate more fully with the reading and writing program.
MathematicsMathematics at Galilee is based upon the Success in Numeracy Education (SINE) program, which has been derived from research into early numeracy. Students are individually interviewed and lessons are planned using the data gathered to focus our teaching to the children's particular needs.
Information Technology is considered a priority at Galilee Primary School. For this reason we have significantly upgraded our facilities over recent years. Every classroom is fitted with networked computers, whilst every student in years 3-6 has their own e-mail address. The school also houses a scanner, digital camera and multimedia projector which are available for students to use in the classrooms.
